Silent Corner

I watch from afar,

where shadows sit heavy on the edge of the room.

Habits grow like ivy – unquestioned,

entitled vines curling around what once was simple.

I say nothing.

Silence is safer than storms.

When I speak,

my voice feels foreign to the air

the weight of subtle things,

too delicate to carry on casual tongues,

too sharp to rest easy in the heart of another.

So I brood.

A quiet ritual of sorting grief

in a world that mistakes stillness for surrender.

When asked what’s wrong,

I reach for words that vanish mid-thought,

and the distance grows again.

Old wounds echo

not in pain, but in the memory of misused trust.

To be known was once a danger,

a vulnerability bent into a weapon.

So now,

I build walls from the inside out.

Connections knock gently

I hesitate to open.

Not for lack of longing,

but for fear of finding

another hollow space where presence should be.

And so I shrink

into moments that ask little of me

a shared laugh on a flight,

a quiet meal,

the pulse of new streets beneath worn shoes.

These are my offerings to joy small,

but mine.

I do not reach far anymore.

I have learned the art of stillness,

not as peace,

but as protection.

And in that stillness,

I survive.

Haystack

We had the meet yesterday

I connected with a lot of folks

Faces, handshakes, glasses raised,

names I’d forget

But all these networking events

are something in a haystack problems

And I instantly searched for that One person

who wasn’t there.

One person who I was confident I would recognize

even if I had a little glimpse of her somehow

One person I had no idea what to say to

One person I just wanted to raise a toast to

and say “thank you”

One person I wanted to have a full-fledged conversation with

and wanted to know how her journey had been

Because I know no one understands her like me

and me like her

And I wonder if she longs to be understood like I do

I don’t even know if she wants to have that long conversation with me

I don’t know if I’ll be able to recognize her

Has she gotten fit? Has she gotten fat?

Maybe she doesn’t need to talk to me

because the man she chose

understands her better than I ever could

Maybe she wants to talk to me about how she feels unloved

because I’m the only one who would understand

Maybe she wants to elope with me

All these are hypotheticals

Assumptions

Fictions I rehearse in the theatre of my mind

It’s been five years

The only thing I can be sure of

is that she has changed

She’s not the girl I knew last

Even if her face were recognizable

I don’t know if her soul is

A man loves a woman hoping she’ll never change,

and she inevitably does

A woman only loves a man who changes for her,

and he rarely does.

Maybe I wasn’t searching for her,

but for the version of myself

that only she knew

Tingles

The room hums with silence.

A stillness that presses—thick, unyielding.

Soft light spills through the window.

Golden. Faint. A caress on the floor.

Her shadow sways—alone, restless.

The air feels alive—watching her.

A breeze slips in—uninvited.

Cool fingers graze her neck.

She shivers—small, involuntary.

Her hair shifts—brushes her collarbone.

She adjusts her stance.

Feet bare on cold wood.

A quiet rebellion—standing still.

Something waits—beyond the walls.

Her pulse taps—soft, a secret rhythm.

The clock stares—relentless, mocking.

Each tick a thread pulled tight.

She exhales—slow, controlled.

A floorboard groans—distant, alive.

Her head snaps—sharp, alert.

Nothing moves.

Yet the room breathes.

The air shifts—sweetens, thickens.

A scent creeps in—subtle, bold.

Leather. Earth. Smoke. Him.

Her lips part—dry, trembling.

She tastes it—feels it first.

A ripple—deep, beneath her ribs.

Small. A flicker of heat.

It coils—lazy, patient.

Her fingers twitch—empty, seeking.

She steps—hesitates.

The window calls—night presses in.

Stars blink—cold, indifferent.

Her reflection stares back.

Wide eyes. Soft mouth.

A stranger—aching, alive.

The clock drags—each second a weight.

Her chest rises—falls, uneven.

A shadow stretches—darkens the doorway.

Tall. Broad. Unrushed.

Her throat tightens—air turns sharp.

Eyes lift—slow, daring.

They crash into his.

Dark. Deep. A storm held still.

Her chest blooms—hot, tight, alive.

He stands—rooted, silent.

Not a word.

Not yet.

But she feels him—everywhere.

A current hums—unseen, fierce.

Her skin wakes—prickles, hums.

A step—boots thud on wood.

Heavy. Deliberate. Sure.

Her ribs cage a frantic beat.

The space shrinks—walls lean in.

Her spine stiffens—defiant, fragile.

Another step—closer, inevitable.

Her breath stumbles—catches, holds.

A memory sparks—his voice.

Low. Rough. A growl in the dark.

She’d laughed once—free, unguarded.

His grin—sharp, rare, hers.

It flickers—burns in her mind.

She blinks—fights the tide.

Loses.

He’s near—too near now.

Heat rolls off him—wild, untamed.

Her heart kicks—caged, desperate.

Fingers graze her arm—light, testing.

She flinches—skin ignites.

The touch stays—slow, claiming.

Her edges soften—melt, blur.

Fear tangles with hunger.

A sigh slips out—soft, jagged.

He shifts—closes the gap.

Breath brushes her temple.

Warm. Steady. Alive.

Her knees buckle—betray her.

The room spins—tilts, fades.

Her hands clench—nails bite palms.

She smells him—close, consuming.

A thread snaps—deep, hidden.

He leans—slow, deliberate.

Lips hover—near, not touching.

Her pulse roars—hot, deafening.

A pause—cruel, endless.

She trembles—raw, exposed.

His gaze pins her—sees through.

Her walls crack—quietly, completely.

A whisper: “Mine.”

She gasps—shatters.

Ik Onkar

“We all said even though that ideal wasn’t always observed, that was the right ideal to have.”

– Barack Obama

In the midst of a battlefield, a distraught warrior asks his charioteer how navigate the chasms of his soul…

In a palace, a wise king asks a deformed sage about the nature of reality and bondage…

In a dream, a wizard asks his departed mentor the meaning of his journey…

A vibration trembles across creation. Not a word. Not a noise. A remembrance. Echoing before the first thought.

Ik Onkar…

The One. The First and the last. The primordial sound of the universe. The first sound that ever was. The last sound that ever will be. A tower of fire without beginning or end. The cosmic microwave background. He is consciousness. He is the soul of the universe. The circumpunct. The One

Sat Naam…

Ana al-Haqq. Altheia. Tao. Truth. The one truth. The only truth. Truth is all there is

Karta Purakh…

He is the creator. He is the creation. He is the Architect. He speaks. He sings. Kun Faya Kun – Let there be…

Nirbh-a-o-Nirvair. Akaal Moorat. Anjoonee Saibhn…

Beyond fear. Beyond hate. Beyond time. Beyond space. Beyond birth. Being. Always was. Self-preserving. He is the source code behind all things. The logic before the language. The silence before the song. Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Gur Prasaad. Jap…

He can be discovered as a grace of the teachings. We endlessly recite only his name. We remember only his tale. We constantly think of him when we are thinking and we think of him when we are not thinking. We devote to him.

Aad sach. Jugaad sach. Hai bhi sach. Nanak Hosee bhi sach…

He is the only truth since the beginning. He is the only truth over time. He is the only truth right now. He will be the only truth in the future. He is Sanatan. He is Tathagata. He is that is. Eru Iluvatar. The Force. The Source.

The impurities of the mind cannot be purified by thoughts, even if you think for a lakh times. Neti, Neti – the path to realizing is to unrealize all that isn’t. Fanaa – annihilation of the self.

You’re waiting for something… maybe your next life.” Stillness is part of the way, not the way itself. The chatter of the soul shall not be calmed by silence, even if one stays quiet forever

Bhukhi-aa bhukh naa utree, je banaa puree-a bhaar…

The hunger shall not be satiated, even if all material desires are fulfilled. This is Trishna. This is Naf. The insatiable craving. The greed of dragons. The One Ring. The things you own that end up owning you. For what good is it to gain the whole world?

Sehas si aanpaa lakh hoh ta, ik naa chalai naal…

Bhagya. Fate. All the world’s a stage. I can possess all the wits of the world, it will not lead to my desired outcome

Kiv sachi-aaraa ho-ee-ai, kiv koorhai tutai paal…

So what is the path to truth? How do I break the falsehoods? How do I know moksha from maya? How will the truth set me free? How do I overcome the ego? How do I awaken to reality? What lies beyond the veil?

Hukam rajai chalnaa, Nanak likhi-aa naal

There is only one path to truth. To follow his order and to walk his path. That is the only path I can travel. That is the only path there is. Accept.

Naya Bharat 7/8 - Old Supremo had a Land

For Democracy–
My love for you shall live forever.
You, however, did not.

Old Supremo had a land,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

He took his plane, and waved his hand,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

With a court case here, a blind eye there,

Here a gag, there a drag,

Everywhere saffron flag–

Old Supremo had a land,

Aiya-aiya-no!

A joke was made, a court was red,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

And justice groaned, then softly bled,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

With a shaming here, and a scolding there,

Here a fine, there a whine,

Everywhere, moral line–

Old Supremo had a land,

Aiya-aiya-no!

A leader spoke, the cops did come,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

They picked him up, and jailed his bum,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

With a warrant here, a scandal there,

Here a raid, there a fade,

Everywhere a case was made–

Old Supremo had a land,

Aiya-aiya-no!

The stocks did drop, the wallets thinned,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

But in this land, it was no sin,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

With a “profit booked,” a “world effect,”

Here a spin, there a grin,

Everywhere a story thin–

Old Supremo had a land,

Aiya-aiya-no!

The numbers shrank, the debt did rake,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

And in this land, the math was fake,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

With a cut right here, a slip right there,

Here blame, there claim,

Everywhere, same old game–

Old Supremo had a land,

Aiya-aiya-no!

A virus spread, the world shut down,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

But in this land, the faith was sound,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

With a bath right here, no mask there,

Here dip, there trip,

Everywhere a blame did slip–

Old Supremo had a land,

Aiya-aiya-no!

The rupee fell, they blamed the Fed,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

And in this land, the spin was spread,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

With a “strong at heart,” a “global tide,”

Here a slip, there a dip,

Everywhere a sinking ship–

Old Supremo had a land,

Aiya-aiya-no!

They launched a plan to unify tax

Aiya-aiya-ho!

It broke the backs of little shacks

Aiya-aiya-ho!

With a slab right here, a fine right there,

Here glitch, there switch,

Everywhere a trader ditched–

Old Supremo had a land,

Aiya-aiya-no!

A judge was picked, the rules were bent,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

And in this land, the call was sent,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

With a nudge right here, a nod right there,

Here call, there stall,

Everywhere a judgment tall–

Old Supremo had a land,

Aiya-aiya-no!

A ban was made, the cash ran dry,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

And in this land, the queues ran high,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

With a swap right here, a scam right there,

Here hoard, there board,

Everywhere the rich restored–

Old Supremo had a land,

Aiya-aiya-no!

A deal was made, the files got lost,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

And in this land, the bribes got tossed,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

With a cut right here, a leak right there,

Here name, there game,

Everywhere it’s all the same–

Old Supreme had a land,

Aiya-aiya-no!

The King still marched, his chest was wide,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

And in this land, the truth had died,

Aiya-aiya-ho!

With a robe so bright, a lie so tight,

Here boast, there toast,

Everywhere a silent ghost–

Old Supremo had a land,

Ai-ai-yo!

MKC8 - The Rime of the Weary Resident

(1)

It is an ancient resident,
And he stoppeth one of three.
"By thy grizzled beard and weary eye,
Now wherefore stopp'st thou me?

The building gates are opened wide,
The movers they do haste;
To shift my goods to my new abode—
Why, man, dost thou lay waste?"

He holds him with his skinny hand,
"There was a time," quoth he—
"Hold off! Unhand me, gray-beard loon!"
Eftsoons his hand dropt he.

He holds him with his glittering eye—
The newcomer stood still,
And listens like a three years' child:
The Resident hath his will.

The newcomer sat on the dusty floor,
He cannot choose but hear;
And thus spake on that ancient man,
With voice so strange and clear:

"The building here is grand and tall,
Its face toward the sky;
But within its lofty, shadowed halls,
A thousand troubles lie.

Water, water, everywhere,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, everywhere,
Nor any drop to drink.

From taps, the liquid trickles down,
As brown as autumn leaves;
It stains the sinks, it floods the floors,
And yet, no one believes.

For some, the water comes in jets,
That knock their pots away;
For others, it's a dribble thin,
That leaves them in dismay.

But hark, another tale I'll tell,
Of windows, high and wide;
Where people toss their rotten wares,
To see where they might bide.

A sandwich here, a curry there,
Sent flying to the breeze;
But lo! It finds a neighbor's pane,
And sticks with strangest ease.

The rain it drips, the wind it whips,
And through the glass it leaks;
The man below doth curse the skies,
For water on his cheeks.

Oh, the woes of window wars,
Where none are safe from spill;
For what goes out from one above,
May soon descend at will.

But still, the building stands so proud,
A marvel, to be sure;
Yet none within can rest aloud,
Their comfort so unsure.

(2)

The WhatsApp group, a cursed thing,
With thumbs that never sleep;
They rise, they fall, they bounce along,
In endless, mindless leap.

Messages of great import,
Are buried in the tide;
Beneath a sea of useless nods,
That never do abide.

"Good morning!" says a cheerful soul,
And thumbs arise in cheer;
But soon the news of water woes,
Is lost and disappears.

The pigeons too, a bane to all,
Their droppings foul and rude;
No feeding them, the rule decreed,
Lest cars be thus imbued.

And yet the feeders do persist,
Their grains they slyly throw;
And pigeons gather, undeterred,
To bring their messy woe.

But soft! The car park once again,
Becomes a battlefield;
Where cars are judged by status high,
And spots are never sealed.

The guest spots, prized and sacred ground,
Are guarded close and tight;
And woe betide the resident,
Who parks there in the night.

I once did try, with quiet plea,
To park where I might see;
But Mr. C, in his glee,
Did block my way with glee.

"Not for thee, this hallowed space,"
Quoth he with fiendish pride;
"Thy car must rest in yonder place,
And far from me abide."

But fortune smiled, in subtle guise,
As I made my final stand;
A deal was struck, with wary eyes,
And I did win my hand.

"Park here," he said, "but mind the rule,
That I shall now bestow;
Thou must ensure thy car is clean,
And never, never slow."

So now my car, with gleaming pride,
Doth rest in hallowed ground;
But I must watch, and ever hide,
Lest C come around.

(3)

The new resident stands in silent thought,
His mind a tangled maze;
He ponders on the tales he's heard,
In this strange, chaotic place.

He sees the old man’s crooked smile,
That hides a secret mirth;
And wonders at the twisted joy,
That springs from all this dearth.

The corridors echo with the cries,
Of neighbors locked in feud;
Of leaking pipes and pigeon fights,
Of rules that oft exclude.

Yet through it all, the ancient one,
Seems strangely undisturbed;
He finds a twisted satisfaction,
In chaos undeterred.

For in this house of endless strife,
Where peace is seldom found;
The old man walks, with quiet pride,
On this beleaguered ground.

He knows each crack, each faulty pipe,
Each spot where rot takes hold;
And watches with a knowing eye,
As new stories unfold.

The garbage tossed from window ledge,
The water seeping in;
The parking wars, the pigeon plague,
All cause his heart to grin.

For in the midst of all these woes,
Where others might despair;
The ancient resident alone,
Finds comfort in the air.

(4)

The newcomer, still standing there,
Now questions his intent;
Should he stay and bear the load,
Of life within this tent?

But then the old man speaks again,
In tones both soft and grave;
“Do not fear this place, my friend,
For you’ll learn to be brave.

For in the end, we all must find,
A way to cope with fate;
To live amidst the chaos here,
And not be filled with hate.

So welcome to this lofty tower,
Where madness finds its home;
Where every day’s an endless hour,
Of tales that make one moan.

But fear not, young one, you’ll survive,
And find your place in line;
Just learn to laugh, to jest, to thrive,
And you’ll be doing fine.”

The old man turns, his tale complete,
And shuffles down the hall;
The newcomer, with heavy feet,
Feels faint within the wall.

And as the elder fades from sight,
A final thought takes flight;
The ancient’s words, both sharp and bright,
Have left him in a fright.

But still, a flicker of resolve,
Lights up within his chest;
He’ll take the challenge, try to solve,
This building’s endless test.

The old man ends his dreary tale,
And turns him with a grin;
The new one shudders, feeling frail,
And knows not where to begin.

For in this place of many woes,
Where nothing seems to fit;
The ancient one finds joy, God knows,
In watching all of it.

And as he turns to walk away,
He whispers, just in case—
"At least, my friend, for all the pain,
The doors are in their place."

Shields

And when nobody wakes you up in the morning. And when nobody waits for you at night. And when you can do whatever you want. What do you call it? Freedom or Loneliness?” – Charles Bukowski

Shields

There’s an illusion of stability

there’s an illusion of progress

there’re mirrors and shields everywhere

but there’s nothing of any real substance

I seek progress, but meditate on failure

afraid to make, any wrong decisions

Living so cautiously, that I do not live at all

in which case, I fail by default

And comfortably nestled in my cocoon I lay

knowing that sitting easy is not the stuff of kings

Stifled out of any motivation, I rest

and free myself from all endeavours of life

I carefully measure each act

on a balance of optimism and stupidity

I blame my past for my lack of motivation

Unable to accept, that my past is my own fault

Fearing to care, for any thing or anyone

‘cause nothing is ever meant to last

No one does, nothing does

Eventually, they all turn their backs and you’re alone again

And such, I close my life to serendipity

and desire to be in control of all that is my life

refusing to engage in anything that is not

unable to see the bigger picture

Such is the nature of the cocoon

that I’ve wrapped around myself

That all I can see is only the concept of myself

And all I can do is be me

I got attacked from many sides

And I drew too many shields

And now all I see is a reflection of me

And it gets hot underneath

And I wish to break free

But I’m too afraid for what lies outside

I know it’s not easy

But I know it’s not as bad as I believe it to be

Anyway, I’ll never know unless I’m out

But the burden of these shields rests heavy on me

And I know I must break free

I just don’t know how nor have the will to be

I don’t cry for help

lest someone might hear and help me

Afraid that reality isn’t as bad as it is in my head

that the world is not as mean as I imagine it to be

And all my imaginary demons that I have nestled for so long

will need to be released and forgotten

And I am attached to my inner demons

Like a prisoner who has fallen in love with the walls around him

But I am the prisoner

And I am the prison

And I know I must break free

I just don’t know how nor have the will to be

Fanning Flames

I watch a fire burn

Its soft embers graze the soul

Who knows what keeps it alight

Who knows how long

before cold darkness grips again

Small twigs burn bright and fast

Heavier logs scorch slower, with difficulty

There is perhaps a lesson to be had here

I’m not sure, I just watch intently

There is a buzz around the room

I care not, but for a single sound

The twitch of an eye among blazing cinders

Missed eyes, looking at me

I’m not sure if they were looking for me

I just know the fire, and not much else
